BIG SKY NEWSLETTER AND UPDATE
Fellow Club Members.
- The purpose of this letter is to inform you of some exciting events coming up at your Club and to acquaint you with the inner workings of your Club.
- First, it is your Club. It is run by a slate of officers elected by you each year. The monthly business meeting is held the first Sunday of each month and is open for any Club Member who wishes to attend. We encourage you each and everyone to attend these meeting to learn of the events of the Club and get a better understanding of the operation of the Club.

- We average 50 paying members which gives us an income of 5,000 so subtracting that from the budget leaves 17,700 the Club must generate to stay open. This equals $1475 per month. Targets cost approximately $0.09 each which means the round of Skeet/Trap shot by you the member generates $2.25 profit for the Club. If you divide the $1475 by $2.25 you can see that it takes a lot of shooting to generate the revenue necessary to stay open. So we must augment the revenue if we are to stay open. That’s why we have Registered Shoots, Leagues and Fun Shoots but we still fall short each year and must rely on the generous donations of some of our Club Members. One of the initiatives we are attempting is to develop the capability to receive and store our own targets to cut cost but more on that later.
- What can you do to help? First, come out and use the Club. The more you shoot the better off the Club is. For example, if every member would come out and shoot 6-8 rounds per month we would be financially solvent. Second, support the Registered Shoots, Leagues and Fun Shoots because these are good sources of revenue for your Club plus they are fun. Third, bring in more members because more members bring revenue from membership fees and increases shooting. Fourth, come out and work at the Club. Right now we are in grass cutting season. The grass needs cutting once a week and each time one of you helps cut the grass the Club saves $100. Fifth, donate a little something when ever you can, e.g., round off the cost of your shooting to the whole dollar or donate a dollar extra. These donations add up over time.
- BUILDING FUND. As many of you know we are running a Building Fund to get our own unloading dock and storage facility. This will enable us to take target delivery directly from the distributor which will cut target cost. Our goal is $7500. For that amount we can put in the pad with loading dock and put up a 20’x 40’ building. Granted there will need to be a lot of work done by Club Members but we can do it. The response so far has been fantastic. Members have already donated over $2300 for the fund. This will allow us to put in the pad and dock which you can see is currently under construction. Please keep your donations coming. If you haven’t made a donation yet please consider doing so.
- FUN SHOOT. To help with the Building Fund we are going to have a Fun Shoot on Saturday May 3, 2008. There will be Three Events which are The Hunter’s Walk, Skeet Poker with a buy in option, and Trap with a buy back option. Cost of event will be $7.50 per event or $20 for all three. If there are junior shooters we will develop a game for them. Cost will be $3.00. Prizes will be given for the top shooter in each event. We will try to start around 10 AM so come out and have some fun and help the Building Fund.
- REGISTERED SHOOT. For those of you who shoot Registered Targets we are having another Registered Shoot on Saturday May 17. Shoot starts around 09:30 AM. We will be shooting whatever gun you wish.
- LAWN MOWING. As mentioned earlier, we are into grass cutting season and we need help mowing the lawn. We cannot afford to pay for grass cutting this year and build a building so we need volunteers to cut the grass. It needs cutting once a week so there is lots to do so we need several members to step up and help us. To volunteer see Norm at the Club. Each time someone volunteers we can put $100 into the Building Fund.
- See you around the Club and good shooting. Remember; just because you don’t want to shoot don’t mean you can’t come to the Club. Not only are we a shooting club we are also a social club. Many members come out and sit around to talk. Granted we talk mostly about shooting or guns but occasionally we settle some of the world’s problems. So, don’t be a stranger, come on out, grab a Coke and join in on the conversation and get to know your fellow club members.
